Done with Kushiel’s Avatar… and I ♥ Zelda!

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

:D I finished Kushiel’s Avatar! I was about 10 pages away when I got off the bus, so I finished it up during the beginning of class. So… good… probably one of the best series I have ever read :) I hestitate to think it though, since I’ve read so many different series. The message of this one really is something that got to me though - I just love love love it!

However… there is one reason in particular that I hate to finish a book while at school - nothing to read on the way home :(

Yesterday I spent a LOT of time at school. Went in at 9:30 for my meeting for work, then I went home really quick to drop off my laptop and pick up my video stuff. Went in, had lunch with Chris, then went to my video class. After that I waited at Chris’ cube for his meeting to get out and read more of Kushiel’s Avatar :) We went home, played some Wii Bowling, ate dinner (chicken, corn, and mashed potatoes :D) and then I played some Zelda when Chris went to Go club. I fed Lily a little bit of my chicken after I was done and she LOVED it. She is so so so cute. Best cat ever.

I got to the second kind of “pre dungeon” section in Zelda before stopping :D

Also, because Kelry taught me how to do it on the numpad… alt 3! ♥♥♥

Now to wait for Hadrien to come in, then eat with Chris, then go home and play more Zelda / find a new book to read on the bus on the way back in for CS391 :)

I shocked myself yesterday by not logging on WoW at ALL XD; Not even to check mail or chat! Such is the power of the Wii (and Zelda!)

http://www.damnfunnypictures.com/templates/view.php?go=item&n=2130

Kate showed me this a while ago and I think it is incredible :) I wish I knew who the original people were who did it. I am going to attempt to do something similar to this for my final project in Art 297 :D

Wii love it! (lol ;_;)

The Nintendo Wii might be my favorite system of all time :x It is getting to be about damn time that finally something could surpass the Super Nintendo in terms of a console, to me ;)

I watched Chris play Red Steel - some of the story sequences are just dumb (they clearly were too lazy to animate… if the sequences had been done WELL it would look good but instead they look dumb, bad, and cheesy) but it does look like it actually might be fun to play. I haven’t played it myself, though :) But I do wish that female character (who apparently needs to be saved) would just get shot, because she is incredibly unsufferably annoying! It is a saving grace of the game itself that she is kidnapped because I wouldn’t be able to stand the game if I had to see very much of her.

Monkey Ball is fun! Some of the mini-games are just weird and I don’t like the controls (though to be fair, I don’t like them because I don’t understand them) but others are just genuinely really fun! I’ll be interested to try it out some more - we only played some of the 50 (!!!) 4-player games that came with it.

Zelda is… incredible! I played it for an hour before some people came over yesterday (I made it to the part where you get to try out your sword :D). I love Epona and it looks like she is going to be a big part of the game (unlike in Ocarina of Time where she doesn’t come in until halfway through). I don’t know what else to say about it but I love it.

The Rayman game is great as well. I’ve never played one before but ALL the mini-games so far are great fun :D (I was also happy to discover that I was quite good at some of the games that other people weren’t doing so hot on :P) The slamming bathroom doors on the bunnies though - that one was hard D: we played it (swapping the controller between 5 of us) for at least 30 minutes before giving up I think. We needed to do it for 50 seconds and I think 38.something was the best we had done.

Trauma Center… :D I actually didn’t realize at first that Trauma Center was mostly a 3D remake of the one for DS… but I’m still loving it. Some things were made much easier simply by the fact that you can switch tools MUCH easier (using the nunchuk part of the controller) and also some parts of there being 3D space is nice. Some motions felt odd to me, or I didn’t know what to do - that may be in part because I didn’t read the manual, but I figured them all out soon enough. There’s also new content (some new levels featuring a new doctor :D) which is really fun, and those levels seem especially fun and innovative. I’ve heard there is a new ending, but I am not far enough in the game to have seen it!

I haven’t played or seen Excite Truck yet. Shane played it last night and he said it was fun.

Wii sports also seems fun - I watched people play it but I don’t think I really played it myself. I can’t remember to be honest :D;

I’m trying to remember if there is anything else… I think that’s it for games I can report on :) The Wii is really, truly great. I’m glad the controller is as awesome as I’d hoped (perhaps better? :P) and so far it HAS been really intuitive. I did have to lower the sensitivity though to make things work a little easier for me. When I filled out the name for the system the first time, I typo’d a TON because my arm would shake a tiny bit and I’d hit the wrong letter -.- Anyway… yes. I love the system :DD

Corey, Natasha, and Tony all came over yesterday to play (fullll apartment. Wow. :X) so we hung out in the living room all playing Wii :D Shane and Chris were there of course too, and Tom as well toward the end :) it was really fun.

Lastly, I’m almost done with Kushiel’s Avatar. It is probably one of the best books (series!) I’ve ever read. I have a little less than 200 pages left (may seem a lot, but it is almost 800 pages long!) and I’ve been reading it a lot whenever I haven’t been playing the Wii or logging in WoW (which hasn’t been often :x).

Wii!

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

I got in line for a Wii at midnight last night, with Shane and Erin.

I just got home… with a Wii, a second controller (missing the nunchuck piece or whatever… I felt rushed and didn’t see it so I just let it go), and 3 games :D (Trauma Center: Second Opinion, Super Monkey Ball Wii, and Twilight Princess!!)

I am going to leave Super Monkey Ball and Zelda to play with Chris so we can experience them together but I am totally going to play Trauma Center in a few minutes!!!

But… Target ROCKS. They gave us tickets for our Wii systems at 7am, and then a few minutes later they came out… with soda and popcorn XD HA, eat that people who waited at Best Buy!! So I enjoyed some “breakfast” and yay I have a Wii!! The sad part was we could have woken up this morning early instead of spending the night (everyone who lined up at Target, even the people who got there at 6, got a ticket - they had 30 Wii systems and pretty close to 30 people showed up altogether)… but at least we got to wait INSIDE the mall instead of outside. I definitely never would have waited for the Wii if I had to wait outside.

We were completely unprepared too. I don’t really think any of us really expected to actually wait in line. I brought a pillow and a tiny blanket, and NOTHING TO DO. Shane only brought his Nintendo DS and didn’t have a pillow or a blanket. Erin brought a pillow and a blanket and…nothing to do! Haha. Shane played the Super Mario Bros. DS game - the MINI GAMES - for 6 hours. SIX HOURS!

We did meet a nice guy in line though! He was right behind us and apparently he camps out for new systems all the time. He must have money or something because he has bought practically every system ever on release :P

I’m not sure I would ever do it again - at least not without Chris. In fact I waited there BECAUSE of Chris, because I knew how much he wanted one. I really could have waited a couple of weeks haha XD but now we have one!

So that was my story of the first (and probably only) time I camped out to get a gaming system :D

Also because I got 3 games I got a $20 gift certificate, and it is the coolest gift certificate ever!!

When we arrived at Target at the mall and realized we would only be 15 and 16 in line… we all had to stop for a second and be like - wait. Are we really doing this? XDDD

gg umass

Sooo UMass managed to scare me half to death :P

I got an email today telling me that I would be withdrawn for the university by November 28th if I failed to pay my bill. Wtf? I did pay my bill and I got a giant excess check! How the hell did I not pay for my bill?

So I check spire… and I owe… $187. -_- Yes UMass, please withdraw me for somehow magically owing you a tiny amount of money after you charged me tuition/fees and then AFTER giving me my excess check, randomly tacked another $187 on there. You are geniuses.

And now I go back to writing notes for my research paper! I’ll be paying the Bursar’s Office a visit later today -_-

On campus~

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

I’m on campus right now!

My project on monday was well-received, thankfully :) I’m glad for it. I need to come up with a good idea for the final project now - I am definitely going to do an animation using a sequence of stills… I just don’t know what I am going to animate! Come on creativity, it’s time to kick in!

Yesterday was all right. I finished writing my senior summary between classes, went to classes… it was all pretty good. I don’t think I manage my time between classes very well… my schedule this semester is horrible. I don’t have class until 2pm some days and 12:20 others, and while that SOUNDS nice, it is terrible. I don’t wake up early enough and then I don’t do work when I do wake up, and then after I get home from classes I barely have any time at all before I am tired again :( And if I want to play a game for a couple of hours to unwind… well I can forget about it D: I really need to learn to manage it better, and it is well past the time I should have figured that out.

Anyway, I’ve been feeling a little bit better. My wisdom tooth that is coming in doesn’t seem to be causing as much pain. I do hope it is healed relatively soon because right now brushing my teeth there is practically impossible because it hurts when I try to brush there, since my gums are in pain from the tooth coming in :( I’ve been trying to do what I can and using mouth wash and stuff.

Yesterday I played WoW for a couple of hours and Sascha hit level 40 :) Yay! Now she has a ram mount and a horse, and both are positively adorable.

I’ve been reading a lot lately too :) About 200 pages into Kushiel’s Avatar - I love it! :D

Anyway time to shut up, I need to get working on my research paper -.- partial draft is due tomorrow.

Monday, November 13th, 2006

Well. Here I am, trapped (well, not really) in the Media Lab! I rendered my video once and realized that all that stuff I thought was offscreen? Well, it isn’t. :X So I made up my own letterbox dealie and I’m rendering again and praying it will look good! (Zooming in isn’t an option since I want to keep things in the frame… I was mistakenly treating anything outside of “title safe” as “offscreen”, which it clearly isn’t and I should have known :P

I have to author the dvd next. It should be pretty easy though - I’ll get a scene of Lily being adorable, drop in some titles, and voila!

(On another note - expecting 20 stills in a 2-4 minute piece seems… excessive. I think I used half that number.)

73% complete.

I should be in Ethics in 5 minutes :( not gonna happen. At least today, they are going to go over the test, so I strongly doubt I will actually miss anything.

90%!

After this is all done, I think I’ll go to the OIT lab (I really want to get off the macintosh for a while) and write up my BDIC proposal so I can get it signed by Bev Woolf and turn it in to the BDIC office tomorrow! (It is technically due wednesday.)

omg it didn’t render correctly. Time to do it AGAIN and make sure it will work this time. I love video editing! I really do! -_-

8%! It’s going much faster this time… which leaves me skeptical :P

(annnnd yay it worked!) Now I’m rendering it AGAIN without one portion of sound because I’m worried it might be looked upon as not using my own sound (the hamster Lily was playing with dances and sings a song…)

Anyway time to stop writing useless crap and try to focus on the matters at hand! ;)

(On one final note, the right side of my jaw HURTS. It has been since thursday (or maybe wednesday) :( I was really hoping it would go away, but it hasn’t yet. The pain is definitely from my wisdom tooth coming in over there. I can’t tell yet if it is just pain from breaking some skin or if it is pain from “lol I need to be removed”. It remains to be seen, but if it hurts for much longer I’m going to have to make an appointment to see a dentist. Great! I’m really, really not looking forward to probably having to get all 4 of them removed :(

Arrested Development ;_; and Borat and school work. Gr.

Monday, November 13th, 2006

Tonight Last night I saw Borat. It was funny… and weird :P I don’t know what else to say about it.

I spent a lot of time yesterday doing more footage of Lily and cleaning up a little bit. Annnnd of course, laundry. I went to the lab (which is now open from 3-9 on sundays! yay!) at 4 and worked until 8 on my project. I took about an hour and a half to get my film on the computer (meh - and it took a while for me to get started too, because the first computer I logged on was mysteriously missing Final Cut Pro…. and a bunch of other film editing related programs o.O)

I don’t have too much left to do… I think! I hope :(

Now to eat and then talk to my camera so I can get my voice recorded so I can narrate my story! I really wish I had someone with the same voice as the Arrested Development narrator XD What a great narrator voice :)

(Speaking of Arrested Development, I saw an episode a few days ago that looked like it was shortly before they were cancelled (during the 3rd season - at least I thought it was the 3rd season, though I’m confused since it seems like the website hasn’t been updated since the 3rd season started), where they advertised the saveourbluths.com website and mentioned how the “company” was going to be going out of business, etc. And the narrator kept saying “Please tell your friends.” I felt SO BAD watching it :X It’s a shame I didn’t even know about the show really until it was cancelled…

Anyway, time to make sure I have everything together blah blah blah :X

Tyris-Chris partyyyy

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

Sooo I had a lot of fun this weekend :D Friday we went to Tony’s and had some delicious pork (among other things too of course) :) and then some Guitar Hero 2 was had, and afterward… Battlestar! The episode was great although I sort of felt like they just… I don’t know. Came up with an awesome plot device then didn’t know what to do with it XD No more on that though, for anyone who hasn’t seen it :) I started to feel crappy, I thought then from allergies, but now I still feel crappy :( so who knows. My throat is the only thing that is really bad (it hurts) and aside from that I’m just a little stuffy. I wasn’t expecting it to go into today from friday, so maybe it wasn’t allergies after all. Who knows!

Yesterday, Chris and I hopped in his car and went to pick up Erin and Kate at B&N in Springfield (Holyoke? I forget where it is exactly!) :) then we brought Kate to her hotel for United Fan Con and brought Erin back to our apartment :) I did some cleaning (I also did a lot of cleaning friday night when I told Kate she could spend the night here saturday) and then it was off to lunch at the Blue Wall with Chris, Mike, Erin (of course), and a man (who actually is from Dalton) and his son who were looking into coming to UMass for undergraduate computer science. We had lunch with them and then went off to the Tyris-Chris party! I played… something that I forget the name of :( arg. Chris will remember (either of them hehe) and a bunch of Guitar Hero 2 as well :) We left around 9:45 or so which ended up perfect. We arrived in Springfield at the hotel 2 hours later, picked up Kate, and came home :D We stopped and got McDonald’s on the way :P

Kate and Erin and I all talked for a little while (Chris went up to bed after finishing his food) and then I went to bed too. Apparently Kate and Erin were up until about 3 or maybe later :P Which very much explains Erin’s difficulty getting up when I went to wake her up at 8 XD;

Now I am having difficulty getting Chris up too! Sigh! (omg and now Shane is up before Chris - this is ridiculous :P)

Fragments of my day yesterday.

Friday, November 10th, 2006

Chris found Kushiel’s Avatar yesterday :D It was……. on the kitchen table? I have no idea how that is possible since I was SURE I had searched it well :( but whatever haha. I’m reading it now and I’m about 100 pages through :D

Yesterday was Jim’s birthday :) (which Erin reminded me of - yay Erin!) I called him and it was really nice to talk to him!

My wisdom teeth are irritating my gums again :( Right now it’s the back/bottom/right one that is hurting the most!

Video game club was awesome yesterday. There was tons of Guitar Hero 2 to go around. I attempted the X-mission in Trauma center that I’m stuck on, still can’t get it :( Damn you X1, damn you D: I’m going to be using this strategy to get it done: http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/trauma_center_d.txt It was a lot of help yesterday to use the gel to momentarily stop bleeding (I had no idea you could do that - I thought it only helped cure the tiny wounds) but I still couldn’t quite yet it. My hand started shaking eventually so I stopped :X

Anyway I need to go eat breakfast or something so I can go on campus for a while :( sigh
